KETELES ebike Pedal Assist Sensor (PAS) Replacement Guide
Share
The instructions below will show you (or your bike mechanic) how to replace the pedal assist sensor on a KETEELS electric bike (works on all KETELES models).
You will need:
• 8mm Allen key
• Crank puller
• Wrench
• Replacement PAS sensor from KETELES
.
Remove the cranks
1. Prepare the bike for maintenance. Remove the bike's battery. Press and release the power button to drain the remaining power.
2. Disconnect the PAS sensor connector. Trace the cable from the PAS sensor (between the left crank and the bottom bracket) to the connector under the battery mounting tray.
3. Remove the crank on the left side of the bicycle:
a. Use an 8mm Allen wrench to tighten the crank bolt head and turn counterclockwise to loosen and remove the crank bolt.
b. Prepare the crank puller tool. Make sure the inner bolt (pressing portion) is at least flush with or slightly below the edge of the outer (threaded) portion of the tool. This will ensure that the tool threads will be able to fully engage the threads on the crank (not be prevented from fully threading by the inner bolt)
c. Carefully thread the outer portion of the crank puller tool into the crank arm bolt hole by hand (approximately five full turns). Be careful not to cross-thread or damage the threads. When properly aligned, the outer portion of the crank puller tool will easily tighten the threads. Fully secure the outer portion of the crank puller tool before engaging the inner bolt. This will ensure the crank and tool threads have the greatest possible clamping force and avoid irreversible damage to the crank. Use the inner bolt of the crank puller tool to press the crank off the bottom bracket. Turn and utilize the handle on the tool so that the inner bolt pushes against the bottom bracket to loosen the crank. Carefully remove the crank from the crank.
Installing the new PAS sensor
Remove the PAS sensor. Note the orientation of the PAS sensor and pull it straight off the bottom bracket axle.
Open the black box of the controller, find the PAS sensor terminal block (3 pins), and unplug the connection terminal between the PAS sensor terminal block and the controller;
Slide the new PAS sensor onto the bottom bracket. Align the splines so the PAS sensor is flush with the edge of the bottom bracket.
Connect the PAS sensor. Insert the PAS sensor by aligning the internal notches and pins on the connector and pressing directly together without twisting to secure the connection.
Reinstall the cranks
To reinstall the cranks on the left side of the bike:
a. Align the cranks so that they are in line with the pedals at either end.
b. Reinstall the left crank bolt using an 8mm Allen key and tighten clockwise. (Tighten the bolt to 35 Nm)
c. Reinstall the battery, fully test the bike, and have your work checked by a local certified and reputable bicycle mechanic.
